PENGARUH MODEL REALISTIC MATHEMATIC EDUCATION (RME) TERHADAP KEMAMPUAN PEMAHAMAN KONSEP MATEMATIS SISWA SEKOLAH DASAR

This study was motivated by the low level of students' mathematical conceptual understanding in the topic of the area of plane figures. One effort to improve this ability is through the implementation of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) learning model. This study aimed to determine whether there is a significant effect of the implementation of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) learning model on elementary school students' mathematical conceptual understanding of the area of plane figures. The research employed an experimental method using a one-group pretest–posttest design. The population consisted of all students at SDN Wado. Using a purposive sampling technique, the sample comprised all 26 fifth-grade students of SDN Wado. The research instrument was a mathematical conceptual understanding test consisting of four essay questions. Based on the data analysis, the Shapiro–Wilk normality test indicated that the pretest data had a significance value of 0.001 (< α = 0.05), while the posttest data had a significance value of 0.014 (< α = 0.05). Therefore, both datasets were not normally distributed. Consequently, the hypothesis was tested using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test with the assistance of SPSS version 32. The results of the Wilcoxon test showed an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.001 (< α = 0.05), leading to the rejection of H₀ and the acceptance of H₁. These findings indicate that the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) learning model has a significant effect on students' mathematical conceptual understanding of the area of plane figures among fifth-grade students at SDN Wado.
